I'm Up for Subscribing to Blogs. Who's With Me?

Posted by rona at 8:00:00 PM 3 Reviewers Commented
Following blogs and posts comes in many ways now in the blog sphere. First, there is Google Friend Connect (GFC), then followed by the Networked Blogs. And then, there came, Bloglovin, Google Plus, Pinterest, and the newest that I know of is the Linky Followers.
Honestly, with all these tools that have been coming up in order to follow blogs, gives me confusion and headache. I have GFC, Networked Blogs and Email Subscription that are active on all of my blogs. As for me, I stick on 3 of them. However, Email Subscription works best for me. Since it takes lots of effort to check accounts on these different following tools, email notifications that come automatically in my inbox makes it so much easier for me to know what my blog pals are up to. I would usually read everything in my inbox first and then hop on to their blogs to comment if I have something to say. This tool sure is an advantage for me that's because my internet connection works slow most of the time. So opening up a page takes time so I'd rather click on the link in a new tab and let it load there while I'm reading the whole post in my email inbox. By the time that I've finished reading, all that I have to do in the actual page is to comment. It does saves me time and effort as well.

I'm sure that we have different choices to where we feel most comfortable with. But if you were to ask me, Email Subscription through Feedburner works best.

And of course, I'm up to following blogs by subscribing through email! So, if interested, just leave your link down below as a comment and let's subscribe to each other. Mine is just right there on my right sidebar. How does that sound to you?

Watching Movies at SM Cinemas Made Easier with E-Plus!

Posted by rona at 11:02:00 PM 1 Reviewers Commented
I was just catching up with current events and news online when I happened to see a video introducing E-Plus! This was said to have launched just last April 11 and that this will definitely make movie viewing on big screen fast, easier and with no hassle at all! For me, this is a good idea since I always hate lining up especially when sure-to-hit-movies are in town.

E-Plus Card
So, for a brief information that I got, this E-Plus card, which is short for Entertainment, Privileges, Lifestyle, Upgrades and Surprises is basically a movie pass or an ATM-like card which enables you to load up to P1000. All you have to do is go straight to the E-Plus Express Lane to where you avail the card and load it every time it runs out of load. Once your card is at hand, you'll then not need to go to ticket booths at all but go straight to the cinema to where your movie is and swipe it in and you're good to go. Not only that you save much of your time from buying a ticket, but you'll also have privileges and freebies of snack treats for as long as you purchase load of P500-P1000 the least.

The E-Plus Swipe Machine
Much more surprises are waiting for you with availing this E-Plus card for a better and easier movie viewing at SM Cinemas! I'm sure that this will flip movie lovers just like me. ;)

Best Sites to Watch Movies Online for Free!

(photo: 123rf.com)
My life is not enough if I can't watch movies in a weeks' time. For as long as there's fast speed internet from where I and Hubby could download lots of movies for free or buy a dozen of new movies on DVD clear copies from our source, movie viewing from the comfort of our home is possible! We're actually "suki" (frequent customer) of a particular store along the way to SM CIty Dasma. The vendors are always happy when we buy because we could waste up to P500 worth of DVD copies in one stop. That's how addicted we are in movies. LOL!

For all who have been asking me of sites to where we find full movies online for free, I decided to enumerate here some of which that I know are reliable. Searching the web to sites offering anything for free could sometimes be a bit hard and annoying because there are a lot of scams that'll just harm your computer. So here is the list below that I've proven to be true and totally safe and free! Just click on the titles and that should lead you directly to their homepages.

1. YouTube - Youtube is where I started to watch movies online. You cannot expect to see the movie in full for there's only a short time limit for every upload. So the best tip that I can give you is to search for movies in keywords such as, "Twilight: The Breaking Dawn movie part 1" and etc. Youtube will automatically lead you to videos that are linked to each other to enjoy the full movie.

2. Veoh - Veoh is similar with Youtube. The functions are just the same. In fact, I found lots of Tagalog/Filipino movies in this site and I actually enjoyed watching at least 5 films in full as well as concerts. Just search for "Tagalog movies/Filipino movies" for that matter. Because most of the Filipino film titles uploaded in Veoh are written backwards so as not to be a copyright issue. "Mula sa Puso" becomes "Osup as Alum" is just an example.

Note: Downloading movies from Youtube and Veoh are possible as long as you have the Realplayer software.

3. Yonipzone - this site is best to watch replays of all the shows on Philippine TV. They have a good compilation of replays on the site which are neatly categorized under each TV channels and programs. You can only wait for just at least 5 hours or so to enjoy the episode of your favorite telenovela or shows that you missed on TV. They also have the latest movies that you can enjoy watching in full-length. Just use the search window and you'll definitely find anything you like if they have it. Oh, did I say that they also provide Live Streaming?!

4. PPStream - this can be a software that needs to be downloaded or a site that you can search from. It provides you all the movies they cached in their site. This is the second favorite that I and Hubby enjoy watching movie from. Just that, the software is written in Chinese. But to no worries coz the page can be translated into English anyway. So I think that this will not be a problem. But it's also an advantage if you know how to read Chinese because this site offers high quality kind of videos.

5. Van698 - Another Chinese website. Sorry guys, my Hubby is Taiwanese so it's an advantage that we found this sites with excellent quality. But you know, there is a function to where you can translate the site into English so it's not gonna be a hassle at all. If your browser doesn't give you that choice, you can search using English words on the search window and I'm sure that you will not need to stress yourself out with all the Chinese words since it automatically leads you to movies with thumbnails. I totally can guarantee you that this site is the best! This is where we found movies from the Oscar Winning Movie List and the films are in its best quality!

I'm still in search for reliable sites from where movies in high quality and in full-length can be downloaded or watched online for free. I'll be blogging about them soon once I proved that they're reliable. Have fun watching! Sit back, relax and enjoy!

The Help

(photo: wikipedia)

'The Help' signifies the racial extremity among white and black people in the 1960's. This film focuses on the situation of how black maids are treated by their white bosses. They are maids but their job includes being nannies as well.

The Plot
Eugenia "Skeeter"  Phelan (Emma Stone), is a single woman and an aspiring writer who just came back from graduating in New York. She had the time to see her friends but unlike her, they're all married and have kids. She told them the great news that she got a job at Jackson Journals. Her column takes care of the "homemaker hints". Since she knows nothing about house chores, she asked for Aibileen's help, a maid to her good friend Elizabeth. From that party and get together, Skeeter started to feel uncomfortable of her friends' attitudes. They seem to have grown from the society's trend who loved their black nannies as a baby and grew up treating them unlikely just like what their parents did. As for Skeeter, this is absurd. She loved her nanny Constantine so much who raised her from the time of her birth.  While at New York, she learned that Constantine left. Her mother's explanation were lies for her that she was eager to know what really happened.

Aibileen Clark, a black maid who has raised 16 white children was encouraged by Skeeter to share her stories with her. Seeing her being treated badly with issues regards to bathroom use, Skeeter had the heart to finally voice out what the maids are feeling in this racial times. And that is by writing this book entitled, The Help.

This book can only be published with stories from at least 20 black maids. At first, Skeeter had a hard time encouraging maids to testify and share their stories with her since she is white. But because of Aibileen and her bravery to push forward on doing this, not only for herself and maids like her, but for her son who died from too much work from the whites, this has enabled Minny, (Octavia Spencer, who won the Best Supporting Actress in the Oscar Academy Awards) to help out. Minny's outspokenness has built a reputation for being a difficult worker but regains forgiveness from her phenomenal cooking skills. She was fired lots of times and the recent was with Hilly Holbrook, a friend of Skeeter, who is a prima donna-feeling housewife and an extremely racist woman.

Hilly, as racist as she was, proposed a bill to the government to pass the law of "Home Help Sanitation Initiative". This bill enables white people to provide their black maids their own toilet and bathroom for their own safety because Hilly believes that blacks carry diseases that might harm the whites. This is the very reason why Minny was fired for using Hilly's private toilet. Minny got back at her by bringing Hilly a chocolate pie. Hilly already ate 2 slices of it when she asked Minny what special ingredient did she use that it tastes so good. Well, Minny intentionally blurted out the truth of putting her feces in it! Hilly puked in anger and disgust.

Meanwhile, other black maids were also suffering from this domestic discrimination. For instance, Hilly's new maid was accused brutally of stealing since she wasn't approved of her request to loan from them for her son's tuition in college. This was all on the news and black maids just got the courage from that very incident to cooperate with Skeeter on writing her book. They gathered one night in Aibileen's house and were interviewed. There were more than 20 of them! Skeeter was really surprised and happy.

Not long after, the book was finally approved and published. Everybody in town got their own copies. Hilly Holbrook read purchased one copy as it was popular in town just to read the 'pie-with-feces' incident that made her totally freaked out. She was furious about getting back not only to black women maids but also to Skeeter. She tried bashing Skeeter in their house but was confronted by Skeeters mother. Because Hilly couldn't push for suing Skeeter and the maids of "libel" (because the author and the names were all anonymous), she went back at Aibileen instead by encouraging her boss to fire her. Once again, for lies and false accusations she just made up! Aibileen for the first time fought back with painful words at Hilly. She said goodbye to the baby she loved and had loved her back and left. That was the last white baby she had ever taken cared of. THE END.

Oh, before I forget, Skeeter learned that her nanny Constantine died after leaving them. She believed that her mother broke her heart for firing her unintentionally to save face from her extreme racist women visitors. But was remorseful of having done so and it was too late already to get her back.

Conclusion
I've loved this movie so much that I felt for the maids and was very proud of Skeeter for what she has done. I'm truly glad that this movie ended just how I expected it to. As I've read from Wikipedia, this movie may be very controversial and may have stirred up anger among the blacks and whites, as they put it.. but this film got lots of positive reviews from all over the world. It has also opened my mind to how racial discrimination looks like since I don't feel any discrimination going on, although there are in this country I know, but not this extreme. With full heart, I pray that this racial discrimination be wiped out in the face of the earth. May love and respect reign in the hearts of everyone instead.

All in all, I rate THE HELP 9 out of 10! Kudos to the director, Tate Taylor and its producers!!!

The Terminal

Posted by rona at 8:49:00 PM 7 Reviewers Commented

How would you feel being stuck in an airport? Not in a day nor in a month but for nine months! Will you accept the challenge? Or give up?

Tom Hanks, once again, entertained me and a lot of viewers for sure with this movie. This story made me feel like I was watching him in Cast Away movie that he did way back the 90's if I'm not mistaken. He was stuck in an island for about many years when the plane where he was riding crashed. He survived from the crash fortunately but just to get stuck in that unknown island for  several years! Yet, I'd say that The Terminal is much more endurable than the Cast Away situation.

Reminiscing that movie in my mind challenged my patience again in this movie, The Terminal. I was thinking, Tom Hanks must be a very patient person in real life maybe that producers get him to play this kind of role in the movies. Well, I'm hoping so because if I were him, I'd be the most desperate and depressed person if given without choice but to be in that situation.

This film I believe is very inspiring. Viktor Navorski as played by Tom Hanks, portrayed a man of dignity - for not  going against the rules. He saw himself being caught in the situation where he couldn't be given permission to enter America and not being allowed to go back home (Krakozhia) as well due to the civil war that's been going on in his country. To make this understandable, he was identified without a country. Thus, making him an alien in the US and worse, they could not even allow him to step out beyond the doors of the New York Airport. To think, that he's just steps away from setting his foot on the grounds of New York, he'd be taking advantage of escaping when guards were not on their posts, right? But he didn't. And that is very admirable about him.

So, he had no choice but to stay within the corners of the said airport and be there for as long as the war in his country is over.

Well, I'm not going into details at all so as not to spoil your viewing if you're here just to get some overview of the movie. But okay, let me just give you hints. Right from the beginning to the end of the movie, Viktor's story revolved in the premises of the airport. His 9 months of stay in there had been colorful that he gained friends as well as respect and admiration from people and even gave him the chance to fall in love with a flight attendant. LOL! I spoiled it already! Forgive me. But come on! Watch it now before I'd be tempted to spoil it even more!
