In Bruges Movie Review

Posted by rona at 3:27:00 PM 0 Reviewers Commented

Okay, this is not my kind of movie. But since I surprisingly took patience on watching it from beginning to end which made me feel proud of myself, (laughing*) I also wanted to do a review about it with all honesty and pure opinion from me.

Let me quote a little information from Wikipedia first.
In Bruges is a 2008 comedy-drama film written and directed by Martin McDonagh. The film stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two hitmen in hiding, with Ralph Fiennes as their gangster boss.

First reaction:
For me, this is never a comedy-drama film but a heavy one. The cinematography itself does not imply a funny atmosphere to its audience. Also, I wasn't particular about technicalities before but I don't know why this movie doesn't have any sound effects in the background.

Second reaction:
I got really alarmed and terrified by the main cast who accidentally killed a sweet child who is fervently praying on his knees in the church! I almost cut it right there and then. Good thing that I was intrigued what will happen next.

Third reaction:
I think the main cast is really having an anger management problem that he hit a woman in a restaurant. Well, it couldn't be avoided since he was influenced by drugs for which concerned people will want to call for a Drugs Lawyer Overland Park.

This is only pure and honest opinion from me as a viewer and my bottomline here is, drugs can ruin a man's life. In this movie, we saw the reality of how drugs can affect a man's behavior. Well, if things like this happen, it's best to seek for a Drugs Lawyer Overland Park to be advised with what's best to do.

The Help

Posted by rona at 12:41:00 AM 6 Reviewers Commented

(photo: wikipedia)

'The Help' signifies the racial extremity among white and black people in the 1960's. This film focuses on the situation of how black maids are treated by their white bosses. They are maids but their job includes being nannies as well.

The Plot
Eugenia "Skeeter"  Phelan (Emma Stone), is a single woman and an aspiring writer who just came back from graduating in New York. She had the time to see her friends but unlike her, they're all married and have kids. She told them the great news that she got a job at Jackson Journals. Her column takes care of the "homemaker hints". Since she knows nothing about house chores, she asked for Aibileen's help, a maid to her good friend Elizabeth. From that party and get together, Skeeter started to feel uncomfortable of her friends' attitudes. They seem to have grown from the society's trend who loved their black nannies as a baby and grew up treating them unlikely just like what their parents did. As for Skeeter, this is absurd. She loved her nanny Constantine so much who raised her from the time of her birth.  While at New York, she learned that Constantine left. Her mother's explanation were lies for her that she was eager to know what really happened.

Aibileen Clark, a black maid who has raised 16 white children was encouraged by Skeeter to share her stories with her. Seeing her being treated badly with issues regards to bathroom use, Skeeter had the heart to finally voice out what the maids are feeling in this racial times. And that is by writing this book entitled, The Help.

This book can only be published with stories from at least 20 black maids. At first, Skeeter had a hard time encouraging maids to testify and share their stories with her since she is white. But because of Aibileen and her bravery to push forward on doing this, not only for herself and maids like her, but for her son who died from too much work from the whites, this has enabled Minny, (Octavia Spencer, who won the Best Supporting Actress in the Oscar Academy Awards) to help out. Minny's outspokenness has built a reputation for being a difficult worker but regains forgiveness from her phenomenal cooking skills. She was fired lots of times and the recent was with Hilly Holbrook, a friend of Skeeter, who is a prima donna-feeling housewife and an extremely racist woman.

Hilly, as racist as she was, proposed a bill to the government to pass the law of "Home Help Sanitation Initiative". This bill enables white people to provide their black maids their own toilet and bathroom for their own safety because Hilly believes that blacks carry diseases that might harm the whites. This is the very reason why Minny was fired for using Hilly's private toilet. Minny got back at her by bringing Hilly a chocolate pie. Hilly already ate 2 slices of it when she asked Minny what special ingredient did she use that it tastes so good. Well, Minny intentionally blurted out the truth of putting her feces in it! Hilly puked in anger and disgust.

Meanwhile, other black maids were also suffering from this domestic discrimination. For instance, Hilly's new maid was accused brutally of stealing since she wasn't approved of her request to loan from them for her son's tuition in college. This was all on the news and black maids just got the courage from that very incident to cooperate with Skeeter on writing her book. They gathered one night in Aibileen's house and were interviewed. There were more than 20 of them! Skeeter was really surprised and happy.

Not long after, the book was finally approved and published. Everybody in town got their own copies. Hilly Holbrook read purchased one copy as it was popular in town just to read the 'pie-with-feces' incident that made her totally freaked out. She was furious about getting back not only to black women maids but also to Skeeter. She tried bashing Skeeter in their house but was confronted by Skeeters mother. Because Hilly couldn't push for suing Skeeter and the maids of "libel" (because the author and the names were all anonymous), she went back at Aibileen instead by encouraging her boss to fire her. Once again, for lies and false accusations she just made up! Aibileen for the first time fought back with painful words at Hilly. She said goodbye to the baby she loved and had loved her back and left. That was the last white baby she had ever taken cared of. THE END.

Oh, before I forget, Skeeter learned that her nanny Constantine died after leaving them. She believed that her mother broke her heart for firing her unintentionally to save face from her extreme racist women visitors. But was remorseful of having done so and it was too late already to get her back.

Conclusion
I've loved this movie so much that I felt for the maids and was very proud of Skeeter for what she has done. I'm truly glad that this movie ended just how I expected it to. As I've read from Wikipedia, this movie may be very controversial and may have stirred up anger among the blacks and whites, as they put it.. but this film got lots of positive reviews from all over the world. It has also opened my mind to how racial discrimination looks like since I don't feel any discrimination going on, although there are in this country I know, but not this extreme. With full heart, I pray that this racial discrimination be wiped out in the face of the earth. May love and respect reign in the hearts of everyone instead.

All in all, I rate THE HELP 9 out of 10! Kudos to the director, Tate Taylor and its producers!!!

The Terminal

Posted by rona at 8:49:00 PM 7 Reviewers Commented

How would you feel being stuck in an airport? Not in a day nor in a month but for nine months! Will you accept the challenge? Or give up?

Tom Hanks, once again, entertained me and a lot of viewers for sure with this movie. This story made me feel like I was watching him in Cast Away movie that he did way back the 90's if I'm not mistaken. He was stuck in an island for about many years when the plane where he was riding crashed. He survived from the crash fortunately but just to get stuck in that unknown island for  several years! Yet, I'd say that The Terminal is much more endurable than the Cast Away situation.

Reminiscing that movie in my mind challenged my patience again in this movie, The Terminal. I was thinking, Tom Hanks must be a very patient person in real life maybe that producers get him to play this kind of role in the movies. Well, I'm hoping so because if I were him, I'd be the most desperate and depressed person if given without choice but to be in that situation.

This film I believe is very inspiring. Viktor Navorski as played by Tom Hanks, portrayed a man of dignity - for not  going against the rules. He saw himself being caught in the situation where he couldn't be given permission to enter America and not being allowed to go back home (Krakozhia) as well due to the civil war that's been going on in his country. To make this understandable, he was identified without a country. Thus, making him an alien in the US and worse, they could not even allow him to step out beyond the doors of the New York Airport. To think, that he's just steps away from setting his foot on the grounds of New York, he'd be taking advantage of escaping when guards were not on their posts, right? But he didn't. And that is very admirable about him.

So, he had no choice but to stay within the corners of the said airport and be there for as long as the war in his country is over.

Well, I'm not going into details at all so as not to spoil your viewing if you're here just to get some overview of the movie. But okay, let me just give you hints. Right from the beginning to the end of the movie, Viktor's story revolved in the premises of the airport. His 9 months of stay in there had been colorful that he gained friends as well as respect and admiration from people and even gave him the chance to fall in love with a flight attendant. LOL! I spoiled it already! Forgive me. But come on! Watch it now before I'd be tempted to spoil it even more!

Training Day

I'm not usually fond of guy movies such as this (Training Day), but because I began to love Denzel Washington from the movie John Q, so far, I also began loving every movie that included him. But, to my surprise, Denzel is not the usual "good person" that I used to watch. In this movie, he turned out to be a dirty cop.  It's admirable that the direction of the movie was unpredictable that it took time for me to figure out that Denzel was actually the bad guy. Maybe that's also because I always thought he's the good guy in the movies. LOL!

His stylist also did a good job for making Denzel looked so much as a street cop. I love the rugged look and those attires and big chain necklaces that he wore. To top it all, though he turned out to be the bad guy, he still did not fail to admire me with his acting skills! Well, he nailed the character I must say. I also like to applaud Ethan Hawks for playing his part as a very principled cop.

How about you? Have you watched Training Day yet? What do you think about the movie?

Bridesmaids Movie

I was looking for a good movie to watch online yesterday and then I happened to click on this one. This movie is all about girl friendship and the good and bad things that may happen between bridesmaids before and during the wedding. I was not expecting that this would just hit it off on screen because it did not give me such impact while watching. I actually cooked and ate in between, paused and played when done. Turned out that it took like 3 hours before I finished it.

Though I wasn't very impressed of the movie, it did make me remind of me and my best friend's little dispute before my wedding last year. We are best of friends since college. One is soon to be married next week while the other one is still waiting for her boyfriend's proposal. That means that she's gonna be the last to marry among us. I'd say that those events from this movie really happen. But then, ours is a different story. My best friend (I'll hide her in the name of Elizabeth) got engaged before me. Of course, as her friends, we Liza (again fake name) and I were so happy for her and looking forward to their wedding plans. But then months and months passed, there were no plans from her and fiance yet. So, we thought that their's is a long engagement. November, my birthday to be exact came. Surprisingly, my boyfriend proposed to me in front of my family and Liza. Elizabeth was not there because of her busy schedule. I was very happy and overwhelmed by the moment that as soon as I got the chance of seeing her, I told her the great news. All I was expecting from her was joy. But it wasn't. Yes, she said that she was happy about me being engaged and was having all those plans for our wedding on the next 4 months but I felt that there was something wrong. I didn't discern what was it all about so, I decided not to tell a lot from then on. Anyway, she didn't ask anything at all after that. I assumed that she was unhappy because that means that I'm gonna be married before her. But then, to make sure, I asked her since I couldn't take those cold smiles and shoulders from her. That's when I finally knew that she wasn't happy of my soon to be wedding because people started pressuring her of whether she and her boyfriend's exact plans of getting married. Well, obviously, for me, I felt sorry for her but being friends, it's just right to be happy for each other, right? I told her that she doesn't need to feel bothered about what other people say. I may marry ahead of her and  and it should not be a competition. We are not competing for anything in the first place and that we have different paths in life. The truth is, there will be times that one goes first and the other one comes next. I'm glad that she understood and that she let go of that feeling towards me. Besides, I didn't want to lose her as my bridesmaid and Liza as my maid of honor.

By next week, Elizabeth is finally walking down the aisle and bind with the man she dearly loves for the rest of her life. Liza is next in line for sure although there's no definite plan from her and her boyfriend of when to settle down. But whenever it is, may the 3 of us have a happy and blessed family life.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

I want to start this movie review by saying that... I'm a huge fan of Kate Hudson! This being a fan of her started after I watched this movie and from then on, hunting more films that includes her just become a hit to me. "Raising Helen" which of course starred by her, is also a very cute movie that I couldn't just give away from my collection. I'm sure that most of you have already seen that movie too. I'll be reviewing that next time.

"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is a romantic comedy film directed by Donald Petrie in 2003, starring Kate Hudson, who played as Andie Anderson, and Matthew MacConaughey as Benjamin Barry McDonalds. Andie is a column writer in a girl magazine called "Composure" and she's the one taking care of the column, 'How to...'. Yet, she finds this particular work boring for she loves writing more about relevant topics such as politics, poverty, and reality issues. Until she found herself formulating another story which is inspired by her friend's (Michelle) recent breakup. Michelle did the classic mistakes that a woman does that drive men away. With this incident, Andie thought of writing a column entitled, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" by dating a random guy around, make him fall in love and drive him away by making those typical mistakes in just 10 days. Interesting, right?

Meanwhile, Benjamin, an arrogant handsome guy is trying to pitch an advertisement for diamonds. Although, his boss already gave the job to women advertisers, he pushed his way on getting it. Since he tried convincing that his pitch is wonderful by saying, "Women in lust wants chocolates, a woman in love wants diamond" and so, the bet arose when he was challenged to prove it by making a woman fall in love with him and bringing her with him at the diamond launch. By then, the pitch will be his.

That meeting came up with an idea of choosing the girl for Benjamin in that exact place to where they are. Of course, he chose the girl. Unfortunately, he sighted Andie, who looked so cute and smart which is perfect because Andie was also in the hunt of a guy for her column!

Dating begun without them revealing their real intentions to each other. Of course,  who would? It was beautiful on the first days that they were so sweet as a real couple just when the 3rd day came. Andie intentionally started to irritate Benjamin with her turning-off-a-guy gestures. With all these funny incidents, there they came about to a big fight which happened on the fourth day. Since Matthew realized that he's doing this for his career, he thought of winning her back by suggesting to go for a 'couples therapy". Andie, as smart as she is, went for it that she chose a therapist herself which is Michelle. The fake therapist as expected. Talking and counseling here and there, which is by the way played very well by Michelle that turned out advising the two to have a weekend getaway together... to Mat's family house. It was like a very bad turn for Andie that she questionably stared at Michelle for what she did. But then, the decision was made and she can't just turn things back. And so they went for a vacation at the province on the fifth day.

The weekend vacation was great that Andie heard from Mat's family that she's the very first girl that he ever brought to their house. Everybody loved her and she started to feel something for Matthew as well as feeling guilty. They instantly became two persons who just blissfully enjoyed the moment together. Just then, as they went back to the city, things were complicated emotionally that it was hard for them to feel the reality of why they're together.

The last event was to come for Matthew's victory to get the pitch. And that is to bring Andie to the diamond launch. Andie went.

Matthew's colleagues were surprised to see that the girl arrived with him at the launch. But, they still have to know something. Is Andie really in love with him? They did asked Andie. Sadly, Andie said that she's not in love. From this event on, the party became the worse that it got. Andie and Benjamin finally came to know their real intentions to each other by hearing those reality from their own bosses who were also in the same event. Both of them tried to hurt each other by making a scene on the stage when Mat was asked to sing for the owner of the diamond company. He intentionally announced that Andie will sing with him. That exchange of furious and hurtful words was the worse!

And yeah, as expected, Andie was really in love and she couldn't hide it that at the end of her column it was stated. Benjamin was forced by his friend to read Andie's column and from then on, the happy and their real love story begun.

Titanic: The Most Romantic Movie of All Time

I know that it's not only me who's gonna say that Titanic is the most romantic movie of all time! Well, personally, I'd say that this movie had an impact in my heart. Never thought that love could be that intense in the hearts of two persons who just met and have known each other in that few days! This made me go gaga and 'kilig' when this hit the theaters in the late 90's. To be exact, I was only 15 years old then. So you would never imagine how I kept dreaming of that love story that spanned for about a month! LOL!

Anyway, I love how this movie inspired viewers on the belief that love is indeed isn't something you can plan. It's something that just naturally come. Jack and Rose's love story is believed to be an endless love. And who will ever forget the love quotes/lines from this movie after all? Not me! I'm planning to watch this again!

My share for:

Precious

Posted by rona at 3:21:00 PM 6 Reviewers Commented
I've watched this movie early last year when I randomly picked it out from my favorite DVD stall. This film shocked me for knowing that a young lady is abused not only physically but also in emotional and mental aspect by her own parents! I find this movie quite disturbing that a family can give traumatic experience to a young lady who's starting to dream of a well and bright future.

Enumerating the dark experiences of Precious is actually hard to even comprehend but I'd like to write them down so to open our minds and hearts towards the girls who are experiencing the same thing right from their very own home.

1. Precious was beaten the first time when she was 5 years old and continually was abused by her unemployed mother that she got wounds and bruises most of the time.
2. Her own father raped her consistently from her childhood to adolescence that resulted to pregnancy of 2 (the first child turned out to be Mongoloid, who was named Mongo while the other one is healthy). I can't help but sigh on this fact and all the more sad for this girl.
3. To finally get away from her abusive family, Precious fled and left their house carrying her two children with her without certainties of the life they have ahead. They actually didn't have any place to go.
4. She eventually learned that her father died from AIDS and that she and her child Mongo were also positive with HIV. Luckily, Abdu, the second son is negative from the illness.

Precious' journey in life is difficult and having learned that this actually happens to many girls out there, I just pray that this stops already. I'd like to give thumbs up to those social workers and to Precious' teacher who helped her stand to see hope and live a new life. She's sick and we all know that her body will give up later on but that peace of mind and living normally with her children is enough reason to fight for life. A truly heavy movie but a very inspiring one.

MIssion Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Posted by rona at 1:59:00 PM 5 Reviewers Commented
I can't help but be thankful, grateful and blessed to have watched Mission Impossible in Hualien - province in west Taiwan. It was a beautiful experience because I had the best movie experience with good sounds of the movie house and comfortable seat. Well, of course, it had Chinese subtitles so that Taiwanese viewers could understand.

When we came in, I noticed that it was an old movie house, but when we finally have sat down (with hubby) it felt like being in one of the cinemas at Mall of Asia! Super good sounds and comfortable seats, obviously true, coz I said this for the second time. Well, when the movie started, none of the viewers were making any noise. No one was talking which is so great because I never wanted to hear any other noise aside from the movie I'm watching. That's the kind of movie viewing I wanted. So you would imagine how I and my husband ignored each other the whole time. Haha.

Anyway, let's go talk about the movie. I have 3 words to best describe it, GREAT, JAW DROPPINGLY AWESOME! Oh, yes! It was one of those movies that I ever had my jaw dropped because of the scenes that will really make one's hands tightly grabbing his/her seat's arm. Really. I have had about more than 5 times of scream in different tones. LOL! My husband was having fun too because we could feel every ground shaking from the full impact sound of the movie from under our chairs.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is something you wouldn't want to miss! It's professionally made for all the viewers to say that every mission was really impossible but they were accomplished by Tom Cruise! A perfect actor for the movie and Oh So Handsome!! Well, I just love it! Truly amazing! Better watch it now if you still haven't!

A Walk to Remember

Posted by rona at 1:16:00 AM 8 Reviewers Commented
While I was browsing our DVD collection last night, I found this very lovely movie of all time. I think that this is one of the best movies for me. Watching it for 4 times, it clearly had an impact in my heart.

A Walk To Remember movie is really something to remember. I like how it was made and the scenes deeply touched me. It gave an inspiring and hopeful feelings to its viewers. The perfect direction and production together with the chosen casts to star in this movie is something to recognize. I remember when I first watched this in a movie theater, I can't help but reminisce all the scenes in my mind. I was pre-occupied with the scenes that deeply touched me. I thought that I was alone, but other viewers who walked out of the theater were looking so touched as well.

This dramatic love story is excellent, all because of its lessons in a Christian way. I love how the writers and producers thought of integrating Bible lessons in it. Because, I believe, that this served as a reminder for young couples to put Christ in the middle of the relationship and through that, miracles really do happen.

LIE TO ME

These past few days, I've seen myself indulging into this American TV series called, "Lie To Me". It got me enjoying because of its very mind provoking concept. Judging each episode's unique stories and cases, one can tell that it's really an awesome series and that the collective works of director, producers and the writers diligently conceptualized it. Not only will it provide lots of informative and useful facts, it also gives awareness to ordinary people on how to detect a lie by himself. I always love it when Dr. Cal Lightman, the main cast who mastered in deception career and a very excellent human lie detector, resolves a case and turns complicated situations into a smooth pace of conclusions. Not mentioning the perfect scientific explanations that each episode is trying to imply.

Do you want to detect when a person lies to you? I'd recommend you watching this series! I guarantee that upon watching one episode, you'll learn basic tips on how to know that a person lies. Well, I just couldn't wait for the Season 3 to be available at my favorite DVD stall. ;)

Legally Blonde 2

Posted by rona at 11:05:00 PM 8 Reviewers Commented

The movie is starred by Reese Witherspoon, a cheerful, fashioned woman lawyer and an animal lover named Elle Woods. She highly believes in making a difference. Setting aside the plans of her upcoming wedding and her budding law career, she pushed forward on campaigning animal rights when she discovered that her lovable Chihuahua Bruiser's mom is locked in a cruel animal testing facility. With all the support of her fiancé and friends, she went to Washington to make this happen.
At the start of the movie, she struggled with the other lawyers who think of her as an intern at first and a little girl who is not so serious with everything. They did not believe her being an idealistic woman. But then she got the support of her boss, also a woman lawyer but eventually who turned against her. Without knowing all this, she finally got the chance of a hearing to the Congress bringing with her a bill which she called the "Bruiser's Bill". But unfortunately it was not approved.  But this did not discourage her to continue. She accidentally knew a senator who they both discovered that this senator's dog is a homosexual. With all this funny incidents, she got the senator's support to pursue this bill she's trying to campaign with. And also got the help of a servant whom she always meets at the doorway entrance.
Once again, she got her feet to the Congressional hearing to discuss the bill. Her workmates were so amazed to her fighting spirit and for being so optimistic that she do it on her own way. With her dog Bruiser who is her lovable inspiration, she stood and spoke up. She believes that dogs or animals also have their rights and she is there to speak up for them when they could not possibly do it on their own. But then once more, the bill did not pass when her boss withdrew her support on it for some reason. She was so sad and depressed and was weak to go on anymore. But finally her workmates were there to give her more strength to finish what she had started. She was so encouraged. She got all the support and help from her friends and colleagues to be with her on this fight for what she believes in. They filed a Petition Discharge. They have to get at least 216 votes from people outside and inside the Congress to make it pass. It was with the help of a lawyer named Grace, who was at first disliking her and yet helped her to continue for she also wants to fight for something that she failed to do before.
The number of votes was increasing little by little that it did add more will for them. Then the last 15 votes were to come. At last her boss was awakened with what she knew she did wrong. She made Elle Woods speak. She stood there in front of all respectable and honorable people then spoke up. It was an encouraging speech and a adoring one. They applauded for her. Finally, she got 218 votes which is more than is required.
This movie is an inspiring movie especially for people who are weak. It is giving the strong will to speak up of what is to be worth fighting for. Elle Woods is an example of having the strong will to fight for what she believes in. although she is a woman, she pushed on doing things that would make a difference without giving up. She is an inspiration for those who are trying to speak up especially in our time today when a lot of injustice is happening everywhere, when people who are abused and harassed just chose to keep silent and others who has the power are not even having the courage to speak up for them. I believe that this movie is worth watching for.

Fireproof: Movie Review

Posted by rona at 8:31:00 PM 3 Reviewers Commented

I am so amazed and blessed with this movie and i could not just turn my mind off for hours from the scenes that deeply touched me after i watched it. God really can bless and talk to His children in every way. This movie has successfully became His instrument that it could reach people in the whole world. I admire the director and producer of this movie, who was the main cast of "facing the giants" for doing another work that will really inspire and will transform lives of a lot of people who are gonna be watching. I have also seen the "behind-the-scenes" and it just made me even more blessed for seeing that the movie was made from the efforts of volunteers from the Christian churches in the US - from the director, producer, to the camera men, casts, and make-up artists, and many more just to make this movie possible. And the first thing that they did every day before they would start filming is to pray.

I am encouraging everybody to watch this. It talks about working out broken marriage and how God changed the couple's lives together. You will definitely gonna love it and will be amazed of God's grace and power. It's two-way-thumbs- up!

I Am Sam: Movie Review

Posted by rona at 8:28:00 PM 4 Reviewers Commented

I actually has seen this movie years ago.. and i think that i've already watched it in like the fifth time last night, it's because this movie really touches me to the deepest of my heart. it inspires me so much that no matter how many times i watch it, or just play those scenes which appeals to me, i'd still be loving it and not get tired of it. in fact, i could easily know where and what part is what. i even had memorized most of the lines of each scenes for having it replayed for many times now (but not to their fully exact words)...=)

for a little summary.. this movie talks about a mentally challenged father who happened to have a daughter with a woman named "becka". Unfortunately, this woman had left him right after giving birth to the child. It was obviously because she was so ashamed of having the baby with a father like him. So Sam had to take care of the little infant all by himself.

Sam named the little girl "Lucy". He had a very hard time on taking care of her. He had to leave the little girl with somebody so he could go to work. The baby was always crying and crying all the time. And he had to feed her and keep an eye on her every now and then.

But that did not discouraged him to give up the baby nor think about it. His friends were so supportive although they were like him who were also special people. Lucy grew up so soon and went to school. The sad thing is, she was becoming smarter everyday. She was withdrawing herself from learning more in school when her father couldn't even read words by himself. It is because she was turning 8 and her father has a brain of a 7 year-old child.

That was when Lucy started to feel ashamed of his father. Since her classmates could not understand anything about him (Sam), they were like laughing at him all the time and that was just so embarrassing for her. Until problems occurred and the social welfare had to get her from the custody of her father.

This is where Sam had got to meet his lawyer and they tried everything they could to fight for Lucy just to get her back to him. But unfortunately, they lost the case. And Lucy was adopted by her foster parents sooner eventually. Sam just felt so depressed for losing her. He had lost the precious "lucy" of his life.

But since they had this very special bond between them (as father and daughter), the foster parents decided to just make Lucy go back to his father. it is for the reason that they just couldn't deprive that little girl from longing the one who's special in her life. They tried everything to make her happy with them but she would always sneak out of the house and went to Sam instead. What a very touching moment this is. It made them realize that Lucy really needs her father so much.

Love will always bring someone closer to its home and settle there in the end no matter what the circumstances are. And Love has it's every way to bring that
happiness to Lucy and Sam in this movie. *sigh*

Lesson learned: Disabled or mentally retarded a person may be.... he/she still has the ability to love and be loved... =)

Jackass The Movie

There was a time that I and my siblings watched movie in my brother's laptop...of course, as usual, its the boys who reigned on watching the movie they like since the power of 3 girls of the family cant ever beat the 4 thorns.

Since I am not fond of those movies that they watch... I just sat at the corner and browsed on those dvd's that i was planning to watch... wishing that i could sneak my choice of movie after... but what the crap! I couldn't imagine that there are people who are so happy on doing those things in this "jackass the movie" to themselves! I mean, what is that?!!

I think that some people are really just that bored that they engage into these kinds of stuffs and hurt themselves in the process. I just couldn't help but to notice it when my brothers were jumping to their butts from laughing out and giggling... but I cant deny the fact that i actually enjoyed it, that i realized, I was in the midst of my brothers watching it like crazy....lol! It was a funny thing to look at although some of it were not suitable for young audiences that's why my other two young sisters rushed to the room and did some other stuff together instead.

Well.. I could say that it was my first time to see that movie because I only saw some portions of it in tv but they had a lot more of crazy and crappy stuffs in it that I almost puked on some of really yucky things they did to themselves. It was really really horrible. i think that movie will do no good to people who watch it. Because for me, it did nothing but it was enjoying though.. LOL!

Brokeback Mountain

This movie has actually opened my mind regarding homosexuals. I actually have gay friends before I entered the seminary but it is here where I learned more about them. And it is my gay friend here in UTS who first encouraged me to watch this movie. It was good watching it with him because I asked a lot of questions to him about the movie and relating it to real life situations.

I stand still to my belief regarding homosexuals, but I also love them as they are. I can’t actually fully sympathize with them because I don’t know how it is to be like them. This very close gay friend of mine has been telling his struggles to me regarding his identity as a person. He is sure to be gay indeed. He has some problems with regards to his father. Honestly I did not know how to comfort him because I didn’t know what to say. I just listened to him. His father disliked him for being a gay. But what is important now is that he told me that his father finally accepted him for what he is and actually calling him “hija” and is very proud of him for being a very diligent student in class. He is getting high grades and is a part-time faculty in the same school to where he is attending to because he helps in the choir.

In the case of this movie, it helped me to understand my friend. It actually added more on my awareness of their identity as gays, their social life and their relationships. I am relating this movie to my friend so I could reflect more on it. For me, I can just understand how gays feel about their situations. They feel the condemnation the most. They feel that they are always being laughed at. I don’t also want these people to feel this way because no one nor straight people deserved to be condemned and be laughed at.

The scene which left me curious is that when the two gays met each other again, and seemed to really long for each others’ hugs and kisses. I actually admire them for being so caring about each other that they understand each others’ problems and inner struggles in life because they have the same identity and they feel what each other feel. And the scene when the other gay died because it is the other gay who felt more grief and loss in his part because they were best friends and really had intimate relationship with each other. It seems like he lost the very important part of his life that no one and nothing could ever replace him.

Personally, I can’t be so much of advocating homosexuals but I want to understand them, and their struggles in life. I still believe that God only made man and woman alone. I don’t want to judge anybody on how they wanted to live their life because for me it is only God who has the right to judge people. What I can do is to love my neighbors and understand them and comfort them as much I can.

Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa?

The Bridges at Madison County

The Bridges at the Madison County is a movie of love, frustration, unhappiness, desire, and hope of a typical woman, mother and a wife. It is true that every woman has different kind of struggles in life and in different situations. In the case of Francesca, a mother of two college teenagers and a house wife, she has a family but she does not feel the happiness that a mother and wife should have. She is happy to see that her family is living very normally like any other families but she seemed to have a lot of unfulfilled space in her heart.

Francesca portrays a very typical woman in this movie – a mother who does everyday house chores and a wife who serves her husband, until when a stranger photographer came to ask direction from her. That is when her life had changed even for just a little time of experiencing the liberty of being a woman away from the everyday routine as a housewife.

I could say that Francesca was very much aware of those times when she and that stranger man met. She knew what she was doing not thinking if it was wrong or a right thing to do. What she knew is that she was acting like who she really is as a woman.

Francesca made me sympathize with her, maybe because I am a woman too. Although I really don’t know how it is to be in her situation. I sympathize with her for desiring the things she wanted for herself when she was still single. She met and married a man from whom she bore two children with. But she realized that in that marriage everything in her life changed as well. She was like driven away from the things that she wanted to do and the things she wanted to have. It is because the reality is that, marriage is a different phase in everybody’s life. But I believe that marriage should be as happy and fulfilling part in a woman’s life as she was when she was single. She still can achieve the things that she wanted and feel the fulfillment in her heart. She wanted to be whole as a woman. And that was her dilemma.

When that stranger photographer Robert came, she realized many things about herself. Aside from having feelings with this guy, she discovered that she can also have the things which can bring her happiness. She envied Robert for he can do things which he loves to do. Taking photos is his passion. Francesca learned that the desire of her heart to be happy is just fair for her to have even though she has a family to be taken cared of. She learned how love can actually bring a lot of happiness in her heart and that’s what she felt being with Robert. She laughed like she did not laugh in ages. She can be as she actually is. She was very happy and that happiness but sadly it just ended for four days.

Even though that event in her life was just temporary, Francesca did the right thing. As what I said earlier, she knew what she was doing. She let herself to act and be as whom she really is in that four days – felt and used liberty she had, loved a man so heartedly and cherished every moment with him… but she made the right decision in the end. She did not go with Robert which will make her leave her family.

As for me, Francesca had been very sad that she actually indulged herself to the wrong thing (which is true for she has a family). I cannot deny the reality that she really did wrong. It is just not fair for her husband and for her children. But it is not only her fault because her family has their fault too on this thing. Her husband seemed to be very busy about life as a family man that he did not notice how sad his wife got. They did not have the moments from which he and his wife enjoyed to do. They were like sucked into a life of having a family and live with it.

I learned essential things from watching this movie. I learned that building relationship everyday with loved ones is very important. Because, no matter how good a relationship started if not working it out everyday will be destroyed in the end.

I remembered a computer game “SIMS” which I really love to play because that game is a life game. Sims are people just like humans who also have basic needs like food, shelter, and love. In that game, a player should fulfill his/her sims’ needs. They need to be fed, sent to school, graduate, get a job, earn money, live a comfortable life with comfortable stuffs in the house made for them… they need to have someone to talk to, companion, build relationship with, marry and have family. These needs have to be always maintained high in percentage because they’ll be sick if hungry, frustrated if not getting what they desire to have or achieve or they will fight with the people around them if not. For example, if an adult male sim established to have 100% relationship with a female sim, get married and have children, they still need to talk, to play, to caress, to kiss, to hug and love each other and meet each other’s needs although they have differences in personalities. Same with their relationship towards their children and friends. It is funny because if they don’t agree with each other’s topic, you can see the minus sign above their heads which means that their relationship level decreases.

That is why humans should be working on to their relationships…everybody. In the case of this movie, that is what is lacking in Francesca’s family. Everybody has fault because they did not seem to reach out each other and open their thoughts and talk about things regarding everything. The percentage of their relationship has gone very low and poor. That is why problems occurred.

God has made man and woman to love each other and cherish each other. It is still very important to have prayer relationships. In Francesca’s situation, at the end of the movie, her children understood her enough that they learned from her and are eager and willing now to fix their own relationships with their own families. For me, that is what’s very important. Family is really important and a very essential part in everybody’s life. I admire my mother for forgiving my father for being unfaithful before. And that is because church people helped her to do so. We were young in that time but my mother said that we were a lot of help for her to overcome that situation. My father is a very good father to us now and I could say that relationships within the family have been restored. This movie is worth watching for.
